Emotional intelligence development session

You’re ready to develop your emotional intelligence, but comparing different emotional intelligence development programs isn’t easy. There are a ton of options out there, and honestly, a lot of them aren’t great. That’s exactly why we built The Emotional Intelligence Journey™ the way we did.

At The Metiss Group, we start with a science-backed assessment (the EQ 360) so you’re not making guesses about which areas to focus. Then we pair you with a coach to help translate your results into a personalized development plan.

In this article, we’ll walk through the two versions of the journey we offer — a three-month sprint and a six-month deep dive — and help you figure out which one fits you best.

What Is The Emotional Intelligence Journey™?

Emotional intelligence is the set of skills that enable us to make our way in a complex world — the personal, emotional, and social aspects of intelligence. The Emotional Intelligence Journey™ is a program designed to help you develop those skills. Think problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal skills and more.

The journey starts with self-discovery through the EQ 360 assessment. This tool shows how you see yourself and how others experience you. Sometimes those align, but often we’re surprised at the way people view us vs. the way we view ourselves. Either way, it’s the starting point for real change.

From there, you team up with an expert coach to dig into the results during a comprehensive debrief. This is where patterns emerge. Your coach helps you unpack blind spots, strengths, and places where your good intentions might not be landing the way you think they are.

Then you build a development plan. It’s tailored to you: your leadership habits, your goals, your challenges. This isn’t a “take this quiz and here’s your type” situation. It’s practical, personalized, and ready to be put into action with measurable, time-based goals.

How Are the 3- and 6-Month EQ Journeys the Same?

No matter which route you choose, the foundation is the same. You’ll start with the EQ 360 assessment, review the results with a coach, and walk away with a development plan that makes sense for you.

Both versions include:

  • Self-discovery through the EQ 360
  • A deep-dive debrief with a coach
  • A personalized development plan to guide your growth

The initial three months are focused on insight and direction. You figure out what’s going on, why it matters, and what to do next.

If you're just looking for that clarity and a strong starting point, both versions will get you there.

How Are the 3- and 6-Month EQ Journeys Different?

The key difference is in what happens after you make your development plan.

In the three-month program, you walk away with insights and a clear roadmap for growth, but the rest is up to you. If you’re the type who likes to take the ball and run with it, this could be all you need. It’s lean, focused, and effective, especially for folks who thrive when given a little autonomy.

In the six-month program, things are just getting warmed up after three months. The next three months are about practice and adjustment. You take what you’ve learned, test it in the real world, and then reconnect with your coach to talk through what happened.

Month four brings coaching support to check progress and recalibrate. If you need to readjust your development plan, your coach can help. Additional coaching sessions at months five and six give you a chance to talk through what’s working and get actionable tips from your coach.

What Are the Differences in Cost for The EQ Journey?

More coaching means more investment. The three-month program runs between $3,300 and $4,800 per individual.

The six-month program includes everything in the three-month version, plus three extra coaching sessions and a mid-point plan adjustment. It tops out at $7,000, which reflects the deeper engagement and ongoing support. You're not just getting more time — you’re getting built-in accountability that helps the learning stick.

Which EQ Journey Is Right for You?

When choosing between the three-month or the six-month journey, it really comes down to how you learn and what kind of support keeps you moving.

Choose the three-month program if: Go for the six-month program if:
You’re already pretty self-aware and just need direction. You tend to lose momentum without built-in accountability.
You’re disciplined about follow-through. You learn best by doing, getting feedback, and adjusting.
You want a focused, efficient way to get clarity and a plan. You’re serious about long-term behavior change and want support to get there.

There’s no wrong answer, just different paths to growth. One gives you the blueprint. The other helps you build the house, live in it, and renovate along the way.

And if you can’t decide, I’ve got good news: it’s perfectly fine to start with the three-month journey and later upgrade to the six-month journey. I get it — sometimes you don’t know how much help you’ll need until you get started.

Final Thoughts

Developing emotional intelligence is a journey — there isn’t always a clear starting and ending point. If you’re self-motivated and just want direction, the three-month journey will give you what you need. If you know you’ll benefit from continued support, challenge, and course correction, the six-month path offers that extra guidance.

Either way, The Emotional Intelligence Journey™ is designed to make you more self-aware and better at making decisions. It all starts with finding a guide to point you in the right direction.

Here at The Metiss Group, our team of behavior experts have been working with small and midsize businesses for almost 30 years.
